On 11 December 2020 we held the symposium "Universities and Sexual Minorities: What can universities do, and what is asked of them?" online (Zoom webinar), co-hosted with the Pride House Tokyo Consortium.
The symposium asked what universities can do, and what is being asked of them, to create campuses where sexual-minority (LGBTQ) students can live their student lives with peace of mind. Researchers who are members of the UDA presented survey findings, followed by a panel discussion that also included speakers from companies and NPOs. Around 120 people from companies, universities and other organisations took part.
The UDA has compiled the results of the questionnaire conducted after the symposium.
Asked how satisfied they were, more than 90% of respondents answered "satisfied" for both the first part, the presentations, and the second part, the panel discussion.
Respondents also offered many constructive opinions on what they expect from future activities. Some of these can be read in the report below (in Japanese).

The UDA will continue to examine what is needed to realise inclusive learning environments for diverse students, including LGBTQ students, at universities and other institutions of higher education, and to share information with society.
