As awareness of "sexual diversity", including gender identity and sexual orientation, grows across society, the need to support sexual-minority students at universities has also come to be widely recognised. Apart from a few universities, however, most are still searching for concrete ways forward. Opportunities for universities across Japan to share their knowledge and learn from one another are therefore needed.
Against this background, the symposium will share the latest research and practical knowledge on the current situation and challenges of supporting sexual-minority students, and on concrete measures to address them. On the practical side in particular, it will focus on collaboration with students at individual universities, and deepen the discussion of future directions for student support. Ultimately, it aims to share concrete suggestions for advancing DE&I (diversity, equity and inclusion) at universities from the perspective of support for sexual-minority students.
